San Diego, Milwaukee Set for Pitcher’s Duel

Apr 21, 2014

San Diego starting pitcher Andrew Cashner is one of the best arms in baseball as he is 2-1 with a 1.27 ERA and 0.95 WHIP this season, including posting a 1.21 ERA and 0.94 WHIP over his last three outings.  Cashner should have little trouble taming a pedestrian Milwaukee lineup that is batting .192 with a .253 on base percentage at home (2.3 runs per game) and .236 with a .291 on base percentage over the last seven contests (3.4 runs per game).

Cashner is also supported by a very good San Diego bullpen that owns a 2.08 ERA and 1.13 WHIP this season, including a 0.47 ERA and 0.84 WHIP over the last seven games.  Meanwhile, Milwaukee right-hander Wily Peralta toes the rubber in excellent form as he is 2-0 with a 1.96 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 2014, including posting a 1.35 ERA and 0.97 WHIP at home.  Peralta’s success at Miller Park is somewhat surprising in that he had a 4.77 ERA and 1.55 WHIP at home last season (compared to a 3.94 ERA and 1.28 WHIP on the road).

Like his counterpart, Peralta is supported by a very good Milwaukee bullpen that enters tonight’s game with a 2.67 ERA and 1.02 WHIP, including a 2.37 ERA and 0.94 WHIP at home.  We expect Peralta and his supporting cast to have success against an anemic San Diego offense that is batting .233 with a .282 on base percentage this season (2.8 runs per game), including hitting .221 with a .260 on base percentage on the road (2.3 runs per game) and .235 with a .283 on base percentage versus right-handed starters (2.8 runs per game).

The experts at Pro Edge Sports lean with the ‘under’ 8 runs in tonight’s MiIwaukee/San Diego game based upon the following technical trends:

  • The ‘under’ is 37-14-2 in San Diego’s last 53 games overall;
  • The ‘under’ is 10-1 in Andrew Cashner’s last eleven starts;
  • The ‘under’ is 13-3 in Milwaukee’s last sixteen home games and 19-7 in its last 26 games overall.

We also like the following games to land ‘under’ the posted total:

  • Texas Rangers at Oakland Athletics under 6.5 runs
  • Miami Marlins/Atlanta Braves under 7.5 runs

Good luck tonight and enjoy the games!
