Major League Baseball’s Best and Worst Pitchers in May

My handicapping database closely tracks how individual pitchers perform on a month-to-month basis as it provides valuable information to a sports investor.  While some starting pitchers start the season in good form, many others begin to demonstrate elite command and control after the All-Star game.  In order to obtain the most relevant information, I only used pitchers with a minimum of ten starts over the last three seasons.  Please find below a detailed list of the best and worst pitchers in May:

Pitchers Worthy of a May Investment

  1. Bronson Arroyo: 12-6
  2. Nick Blackburn: 11-5
  3. Johnny Cueto: 12-4*
  4. Yovani Gallardo: 8-4
  5. Cole Hamels: 13-3
  6. Rich Harden: 10-3*
  7. Tim Hudson: 10-3
  8. Clayton Kershaw: 10-4
  9. Shaun Marcum: 11-2

Pitchers Who Should be Avoided in May

  1. Dallas Braden: 3-9
  2. Gavin Floyd: 5-10
  3. Felix Hernandez: 4-14
  4. Ian Kennedy: 3-7
  5. Justin Masterson: 3-8

Investing on those pitchers who excel in certain months has proven to be a profitable handicapping angle, and I will continue to provide a list of those money-making pitchers as we progress through the baseball season.
