Jered Weaver: The Most Underrated Pitcher in Baseball

Apr 11, 2011

Los Angeles right-hander Jered Weaver is undoubtedly one of the most underrated pitchers in all of baseball.  Weaver is an elite pitcher who continues to fly under-the-radar as he led the Majors last season in strikeouts and ranked among the American League’s top five pitchers in WHIP and ERA.  This season, Weaver is coming off a solid spring training wherein he garnered 17 strikeouts and walked none in his first 13 1/3-innings of work.  That success has carried over to the regular season where Weaver has recorded three wins, 27 strikeouts and only two earned runs against in 20 1/3- innings of work.  Overall, Weaver is 3-0 with a 0.87 ERA and 0.871 WHIP this season, including boasting an impressive 0.33 BB/SO ratio.  Moreover, Weaver excels at home where he boasts a career 2.92 ERA, which means that he is a ‘buy’ sign whenever he takes the mound in Anaheim.

In his last outing, Weaver limited Toronto to one run and four hits over 7 2/3 -innings of work, while compiling an incredible 15 strikeouts.  In addition, Weaver is a perfect 2-0 with a 0.69 ERA and 0.769 WHIP on the road this season, including limiting an explosive Kansas City lineup to just two hits over 6+ innings.  As a sports investor, f you can get Weaver at -180 or better at home, he is worthy of a substantial investment, especially versus the Blue Jays against whom he is 7-1 in eight career starts with a 2.68 ERA and 0.894 WHIP.

Jered Weaver is a legitimate ace who deserves a lot more attention that he gets from the media, but that just provides sports bettors with a greater opportunity to take advantage of his elite skills throughout the 2011 Major League Baseball season.
