The Golden State Warriors host the Houston Rockets tonight in San Francisco. It’s a good thing, too, as they will have a chance to end a six-game losing streak against a team they have owned for the last few seasons. They lost the first game of their current six-game homestand and the Warriors will be without Draymond Green once again due to his suspension. The good news is that Golden State has beaten Houston in 11 straight games.

Green has missed the last two Warriors losses. So far this season, the Warriors are 1-4 when he doesn’t play. In a 130-123 overtime loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night, the Warriors welcomed back Stephen Curry from a knee injury. Curry managed to score 25 points in a game that he played a season-high 40 minutes. After his effort on Saturday, Curry’s career minutes played reached 30,700. Tonight, he will have the opportunity to overtake Nate Thurmond (30,735) for the franchise record.

Chet Holmgren of Oklahoma City made a game-ending, buzzer-beating 3-pointer on Saturday. With 31 points, Warriors F Andrew Wiggins ended a season-long slump, and Klay Thompson chipped in with 16.

Golden State defeated Houston 106-95 on October 29 thanks to Curry’s 24 points. Thompson added 19 and Wiggins had 13. With 6:42 remaining in that game, the Rockets were ahead 87-85. However, Curry responded with four straight three-pointers in a 15-2 run that gave Golden State its 11th straight win in the rivalry. Thompson scored 41 points in a victory on the road last November and 42 points in a victory at home in February 2023.

Houston will play the second night of a back-to-back tonight. It’s been a tough schedule for the Rockets who lost 106-100 to the Clippers on Friday and 105-104 to the Lakers on Sunday.  It was LeBron James’ free throw with 1.2 seconds remaining that decided the outcome of yesterday’s game.

Warriors supporters will get to see a Rockets team that has surprised many this season with a 6-5 record so far. Dillon Brooks and Fred VanVleet are new offseason acquisitions that have helped fuel the Rockets’ early season success. Both have faced the Warriors in the postseason.

Against the Lakers, VanVleet recorded a double-double of 15 points and 16 assists, while Brooks scored a team-high 24 points. Alperen Sengun, an emerging big man who has scored 23 points in three straight games, will also present challenges for the undersized Warriors. Sengun finished the previous game against Golden State with 19 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. Earlier this month, in a victory over the Sacramento Kings, Sengun recorded a season-high 12 assists, evoking comparisons to Nikola Jokic with his dazzling passes.

The Rockets are only 3-16 SU in their last 19 road games. Since last season, Houston is just 2-11 SU in games on the second night of a back-to-back.
