Odds: Rangers -105, Diamondbacks -105
Total: 9.5
In Game 4 of the World Series at Chase Field tonight, the Texas Rangers hope to take a commanding 3-1 lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks. With excellent pitching and a two-run home run by former World Series MVP Corey Seager, Texas won Game 3 on Monday night, 3-1. It was Seager’s second two-run home run of the series.
Aroldis Chapman, Jose Leclerc, Josh Sborz, Jon Gray, Max Scherzer, and Jon Gray were the Texas pitchers who kept the Diamondbacks to one run on six hits last night. Arizona had scored a combined 14 runs in the first two games of the series.
It appears that both teams will play a bullpen in Game 4. This postseason, Rangers left-hander Andrew Heaney (0-0) will start for the third time and make his fifth appearance. He has pitched six innings and allowed four runs on seven hits so far. In the postseason, opponents are hitting .292 against Heaney, who has a 6.00 ERA. During the regular season, Heaney made 28 starts, went 10-6 with a 4.15 ERA.
Lefty Joe Mantiply, an All-Star in 2022 will start for the Diamondbacks tonight. He appeared in Game 1 of the World Series, which was his first World Series appearance in his career. He pitched one scoreless inning in Game 1. In his eight career postseason appearances (all this season), Mantiply is 2-0 with a 4.26 ERA. He pitched 8.1 innings without giving up an earned run in his final six regular-season games, and over his ten games in September, he had a 1.38 ERA.
The Rangers have tied a MLB record by winning nine straight games on the road. After leaving Monday’s game due to tightness in his left side, Adolis Garcia is expected to return to the starting lineup for the Rangers tonight. In addition to driving in 22 runs, Garcia hit a walk-off home run in Game 1, giving the slugger eight dingers in the postseason.
Last night was the Diamondbacks first World Series game at their home stadium in 22 years. Their lone championship as a franchise came in 2001 when they won the World Series by beating the New York Yankees. Arizona’s all-time home record in the postseason is 16-10.
Diamondbacks second baseman Ketel Marte has set a MLB record by hitting safely in his first 19 postseason games. He has 22 total hits. In Game 3, the Diamondbacks used Kyle Nelson, Miguel Castro, Luis Frias, and Andrew Saalfrank out of the bullpen. That means their best relievers should be well-rested when Mantiply leaves tonight’s game. Arizona pitchers Ryne Nelson, Ryan Thompson, Kevin Ginkel, and closer Paul Sewald are all ready to pitch in tonight’s game when needed.
The Diamondbacks are 10-5 SU in their last 15 games. The Rangers are 4-1 SU in their last five. The Over is 4-1 in the Rangers’ last five games and in the last eight games against Arizona, the Over is 6-2. Don’t forget, Arizona scored 14 combined runs in Games 1 and 2.
