Game: Seattle Seahawks @ New York Giants
Time: 8:15 p.m.
Odds: Seahawks -1.5, Giants +1.5
Total: 47.5
After splitting a pair of road games, the New York Giants (1-2 SU, 0-3 ATS) head back home to take on the Seattle Seahawks (2-1, 2-1) as slight favorites in Week 4’s Monday Night Football. The Giants, who are playing in their third prime-time game in the first four weeks of the 2023 season, will have extra rest in this one after losing to the San Francisco 49ers 30-12 as 10.5-point underdogs last Thursday night.
The Seahawks have made a nice recovery after their shocking 30-13 season-opening loss to the Los Angeles Rams as a 4.5-point home favorite. Since then, the Seahawks have won their last two games. They beat the Carolina Panthers 37-27 as 4.5-point home underdogs in Week 3 and the Detroit Lions 37-31 in overtime as 4.5-point road underdogs in Week 2.
An area of concern for Seattle and head coach Pete Carroll is that the defense has allowed at least 27 points in each of the team’s first three games. On a more positive note, safety Jamal Adams (leg) is expected to play at MetLife Stadium on Monday night. He previously played for the New York Jets.
Although the Giants’ trip to the West Coast wasn’t particularly fruitful, the team was fortunate to at least pick up its first victory. In Week 2, the Giants had to overcome a 28-7 deficit to defeat the Arizona Cardinals 31-28 as 4.5-point underdogs. Unfortunately, they didn’t have much left in the tank when they faced the 49ers in a short week last week.
The additional rest should enable the Giants to get ready for a challenging offensive opponent who has had difficulty stopping teams’ defenses. Saquon Barkley has a high ankle sprain and is listed as doubtful for Monday’s game. Without him, the Giants offense is limited.
In the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Jets selected quarterback Geno Smith, who later spent one season with the Giants in 2017. Smith played for five seasons in total in New York before spending a year with the Los Angeles Chargers. He later joined the Seahawks as Russell Wilson’s backup and eventual replacement.
Smith will want to excel for Seattle and try to turn around the poor 1-6 SU record that the team has had in its last seven prime-time appearances. The Seahawks have, however, won five of the last six meetings against the Giants.
Similar to Seattle, New York has struggled on defense in its first three games, giving up 28 points or more on each occasion. Even so, the public has made the Giants short favorites at home. They have won five of their last six games played in October. They are also 5-1 ATS in those six games. However, just like their opponent, they have had a lot of difficulty playing during prime time, losing 14 of their last 15 games when playing at night.
