Time: 8:15 p.m.
Odds: 49ers -7, Vikings +7
Total: 43
In their last six road games against Minnesota, the San Francisco 49ers (5-1 SU, 4-2 ATS) have gone 0-6 SU and 1-5 ATS. Tonight in Minnesota, the 49ers will try to get their first road victory over the Vikings (2-4 SU, 2-3-1 ATS) since 1992.
In its last 14 games against NFC opponents, San Francisco is 13-1 SU and 12-2 ATS, including a 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS record this year. In their last four home games, the Vikings are 0-4 SU and ATS. In the previous five meetings between the 49ers and the Vikings, the Under is 4-1.
Last Sunday in Week 6, the 49ers lost their first game of the season to the Cleveland Browns, 19-17, despite being 9.5-point road favorites. In the loss, Brock Purdy completed just 12-of-27 passes for 125 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception. The Niners lost RB Christian McCaffrey to an oblique injury. McCaffrey had gained 43 yards on 11 carries and had 3 catches for 9 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game.
McCaffrey was not the only injury suffered by the 49ers. OT Trent Williams (foot) and wideout Deebo Samuel (shoulder) are both probably out tonight. Samuel is out for sure and Williams is listed as doubtful. McCaffrey is listed as questionable to return against the Vikings. Prior to Sunday’s loss to the Browns, San Francisco had a record of 15-0 SU and 12-3 ATS in its previous 15 regular-season games.
Last Sunday, the Vikings defeated the Chicago Bears 19-13 on the road as 3-point underdogs thanks to an unexpectedly strong defensive performance. Vikings QB Kirk Cousins went 21-for-31 for just 181 passing yards and one passing touchdown in the victory. Justin Jefferson’s absence was noticeable in the passing game. Jefferson is on injured reserve with a hamstring injury.
Cousins has a history of having difficulty on Monday Night Football. In his 12 career Monday night starts, he is just 2-10 SU. He has an average of 239.6 passing yards per game, 17 touchdown passes, and 11 interceptions.
It will be crucial for bettors to keep an eye on McCaffrey and Williams’ playing status. Don’t forget, the 49ers are the best scoring defense in the NFL, allowing just 14.5 points per game while ranking third in total defense with 278 total yards allowed per game. It came as a bit of a surprise to see Browns backup QB P.J. Walker lead the Browns to a win over San Francisco last Sunday.
With only 75 rushing yards per game on average this season, the Vikings are currently 30th in the NFL. Tonight, they will take on the sixth-best rushing defense in the NFL. San Francisco allows just 80.2 rushing yards per game. Cousins still has TE T.J. Hockenson and rookie WR Jordan Addison, but the Niners are a top-10 pass defense, allowing just over 200 yards per game.
