When the Detroit Lions (5-2 SU, 5-2 ATS) host the Las Vegas Raiders (3-4 SU, 3-4 ATS) in Week 8 Monday Night Football, they will be heavy favorites at home looking to bounce back from a devastating loss the previous week. Before the Baltimore Ravens destroyed the Lions 38-6 on the road last Sunday, Detroit had won five of its previous six games, including four straight. The Raiders suffered through a humiliating loss to the Chicago Bears last week.

The sad thing is that the Raiders lost to an undrafted rookie starting quarterback – Tyson Bagent – who was playing Division II football a year ago. Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels started veteran Brian Hoyer over their own rookie, Aidan O’Connell and the results were disastrous. It was Hoyer’s 13th straight loss as a starter.

McDaniels and Raiders fans are hopeful that Jimmy Garoppolo will be cleared and ready to go on Monday night. He suffered a back injury during Las Vegas’s win over New England in Week 6. If he is not cleared, McDaniels will have a decision to make again…Hoyer or O’Connell. Garoppolo has been listed as probable, so he should start.

The Lions can’t afford another slow start. They were down 28-0 at the half last week.  The only bright spot from that defeat was the performance of rookie running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who made a good fill-in for the team’s top rusher David Montgomery. After missing two games due to a hamstring injury, Gibbs finished with 11 carries for 68 yards, had a 21-yard scamper for the Lions’ lone touchdown, and recorded nine catches for 58 yards. The defense Gibbs will face next is the same one that allowed Chicago running back D’Onta Foreman to score three touchdowns last week.

Another poor performance could make McDaniels the first coaching casualty of the season. There are some questions as to whether he is making sound decisions. It’s showing in his record, which is awful on the road too. The Raiders are 1-5 SU and ATS in their last six road games.

Detroit is now 14-3 ATS in its last 17 games and 7-1 ATS in its last 8 at home. The Lions are 4-2 SU in their last six games against the Raiders and this marks Detroit’s first Monday night game since the 2021 season. The Lions are 5-8 SU in 13 games on Monday Night Football.

The Raiders are just 3-7 SU in their last 10 games. They have only won one of the last five against Detroit, but Las Vegas has covered in six of the last nine games against the Lions. The Raiders offense has only scored more than 18 points once in a game this season.

The Under has cashed in four of the Raiders’ last five games. For the Lions, they have trended to the Over, which is 4-2 in Detroit’s last six games. In the last seven games between these two franchises, the Over is 5-2. The Raiders offense ranks 30th in the NFL, scoring just 16 points per game. They have scored more than 18 points just once this season.
