Time: 8:00 p.m.
Odds: Ravens -1, Commanders +1
Total: 37.5
The Baltimore Ravens (1-0 SU, 0-1 ATS) defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 20-19 last Saturday to improve to 24-0 SU in their last 24 preseason games. Tonight in Washington, the Ravens will attempt to continue their winning streak by defeating the Washington Commanders (1-0 SU, 1-0 ATS).
After going 11-0 ATS in its previous 11 preseason games, Baltimore is now 0-2 ATS in its most recent two preseason contests. Prior to their victory and ATS win on Friday, the Commanders had a record of 2-10 SU and ATS in their previous 12 preseason games. In the last 10 preseason games involving the Commanders, the Under is 8-2.
In the Ravens Week 1 win, Josh Johnson went 8-for-12 with 45 passing yards and a touchdown while Tyler Huntley completed 8-of-11 passes for 88 passing yards and a score. At the end of the first half, Justin Tucker’s 60-yard field goal attempt was successful, which makes him 2-for-2 this preseason. Baltimore also ran the ball effectively, racking up 133 yards on 28 carries. In their previous five preseason games against the Commanders, the Ravens have a perfect 5-0 SU and 4-1 ATS record.
Last Friday night, Washington was a 2.5-point road underdog and took a 14-2 lead into halftime against Cleveland. The Commanders would hang on to beat the Browns 17-15 in an unexpected victory. Sam Howell, who was in charge of the offense in the first half, did a good job, completing 9-of-12 passes for 77 yards and one passing touchdown. In their time on the field, Jake Fromm and Jacoby Brissett both threw one interception and no touchdown passes.
Although Howell is the undisputed favorite to start at quarterback for Washington this season, head coach Ron Rivera hasn’t made a formal choice yet. On Monday night, all three quarterbacks are anticipated to play once more.
Baltimore will be hoping for a more convincing victory on Monday night after winning their last two preseason games by a combined two points, 20-19 on Saturday against the Eagles and 17-15 at home against the Commanders last year. Before last year’s close call, the Ravens had defeated Washington in their previous four preseason games by an average margin of victory of 19.3 points per game.
In its last 11 road preseason games, Baltimore is 11-0 SU and 10-1 ATS, including a current 6-0 ATS run that includes six straight victories by a touchdown or more. Being away from home might help reduce some of the pressure the team must experience to maintain this preseason winning streak.
As a result of the loss of Taylor Heinicke and Carson Wentz, Washington is currently evaluating Howell, Jacoby Brissett, and Jake Fromm as potential quarterbacks. Eric Bieniemy, the new offensive coordinator, had great success in his five seasons in the same position with the Kansas City Chiefs, and he wants to show that he can succeed in Washington without Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes.
