Game: San Antonio Spurs @ Phoenix Suns
Time: 10:00 p.m.
Odds: Spurs +7, Suns -7
Total: 226.5
In the first of their two back-to-back games in Phoenix on Tuesday, the Suns hope to have two of their best players back. Through their first three games, the Suns’ power trio of Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant has not been on the court together yet. Due to a back injury, Beal has not played yet in the regular season, and Booker has missed the last two games due to a foot sprain.
With 39 points in a 100-95 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers last Thursday and another 26 points in the Suns’ 126-104 victory over Utah on Saturday in their home opener, Durant is more than doing his part to keep the ship afloat. Durant played just 29 minutes but made 8-of-11 shots in the victory over the Jazz.
Grayson Allen scored 17 points, 14 of which came in the third quarter when Phoenix took the lead. Eric Gordon added 21 points for the Suns. With Jusuf Nurkic scoring 10 points and Drew Eubanks and Jordan Goodwin adding 12 points off the bench, the Suns shot 52.9 percent from the field.
Suns head coach Frank Vogel stated that Beal and Booker are putting in a lot of work with their trainers without providing any further information or updates. On the latest injury report, Beal is listed as out and Booker is doubtful.
After being destroyed 123-83 on the road by the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday, the Spurs are on their way to Arizona. After splitting two games at home, San Antonio was on the road for the first time. The Spurs were not up to the challenge, falling behind by as many as 34 points in the third quarter.
Devin Vassell led the Spurs with 14 points but had just two in the second half. Cedi Osman added 12 points off the bench, and rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama scored just 11 points in his 26 minutes on the court. San Antonio made a season-high twenty-five turnovers. Wembenyana is averaging 15.7 points and 7.3 rebounds per game thus far. He’s averaging 27 minutes on the floor per game.
Going back to last season, the Spurs are now 4-10 SU and ATS in their last 14 games. They have lost nine straight to Phoenix and San Antonio has not done well on the road. After getting crushed in their last game, the Spurs are now 3-17 SU in their last 20 games on the road.
Phoenix has covered the spread in five of their last seven games. However, against the Spurs at home, the Suns are just 1-4 ATS. In its last three games against San Antonio – all last season – the Suns are averaging 125.33 points per game. Surprisingly, two of those three games ended up with the Under cashing a winning ticket. The two teams will square off in Phoenix on Thursday as well.
