The Los Angeles Dodgers will return home on Monday night to take on the hot-hitting Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West after playing an emotional series against the Boston Red Sox on the East Coast. Mookie Betts and Enrique Hernandez of the Dodgers helped win the series on Friday and Sunday as the Dodgers celebrated their trip back home.

Betts recorded seven hits in the three games against his former team, including a home run, as Los Angeles won 7-4 on Sunday. His 35 home runs this season match his career high, which he set last season. Betts also is currently riding a 15-game hitting streak. Betts’ impressive run has contributed to the Dodgers’ 21-4 record in August. This will be the final time the Dodgers and Diamondbacks meet this season. Each team has won five times through the first 10 meetings of this season.

Bobby Miller, a rookie right-hander for Los Angeles, will start the first game of the series. Miller (7-3, 3.86 ERA) has made significant progress over his last seven starts despite allowing four runs in 6.1 innings of last Tuesday’s loss to the Cleveland Guardians. On August 9, Miller faced the Diamondbacks and allowed no runs in six innings and earned the win in a 2-0 Dodgers victory.

At the beginning of the second half of the season, the Diamondbacks were tied for first place in the National League West. However, they went on a 5-20 slide that included a nine-game losing streak. However, they have won 10 of their previous 12 games to retake second place. With a 12-game deficit in the standings, Arizona is unlikely to overtake the Dodgers for the division crown, but they do hold the third spot in the NL wild-card race.

On Monday, the Diamondbacks will start right-hander Zac Gallen (14-5, 3.11 ERA). With a 1.42 ERA over his last four starts and a three-start winning streak during an impressive season, Gallen may be in the midst of his most dominant phase of the season.

On March 30, Gallen struggled in a loss to the Dodgers in the season opener. Over 4.2 innings, he allowed five runs on six hits and three walks. He has made 10 career starts against Los Angeles, going 1-3 with a 2.88 ERA and striking out 72 batters in 59 1/3 innings. Gallen also struggles when pitching on the road. He is just 3-4 with a 4.46 ERA in his road starts this season. He’s allowed 10 homers and walked 21 batters in his starts away from home.

In his last 11 games, Arizona rookie Corbin Carroll has seven multi-hit games and came close to hitting an inside-the-park home run during a 5-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday. He became the fourth rookie in history to hit 20 home runs and steal 40 bases in a single season.
