Week One NFL Betting Report: Sharps vs. Squares

Sep 5, 2013

The 2013-2014 NFL season is finally here and it kicks off with a rematch of last season’s AFC Divisional Playoff game between the Baltimore Ravens and Denver Broncos.  Pro Edge’s contacts have been burning up the phone lines determining where the money is going in this week’s NFL card.  Our sources have followed the money trail all week and have distinguished between the teams receiving sharp action (i.e. money from professional sports bettors) and those who are attracting square money (teams beloved by by the uninformed public).  Below please find Pro Edge’s week one NFL betting report:

Week One NFL Teams Attracting Sharp Money:

  • Buffalo Bills
  • Carolina Panthers
  • St. Louis Rams

Week One NFL Teams Drawing Heavy Public Money:

  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers
  • New England Patriots
  • Kansas City Chiefs
  • Seattle Seahawks
  • Indianapolis Colts
  • Houston Texans

Based the existing betting market, Pro Edge Sports likes the Carolina Panthers and St. Louis Rams.  However, our experts like one additional game that does not fall within the parameters above – the New Orleans Saints.  The Falcons benefitted from incredible positive variance last season as they were +12 in turnover margin and finished with a 64% fumble recovery rate.  Atlanta lost its best offensive lineman in Tyson Clabo and its best pass rusher in John Abraham.  The Falcons’ secondary is also inexperienced with two rookies expected to see a lot of action this season.  Finally, Atlanta failed to win a preseason game, which is a bad omen as these squads are 8-20-1 ATS in season-openers.
