Sports Betting Tips: Minnesota Twins (+107) over Chicago Cubs

Analysis: Minnesota ace Jose Berrios takes the mound in Wrigley with a 3.15 ERA, 3.25 FIP and 3.37 xFIP in sixteen starts this season. The 24-year-old has also posted elite 9.52 K/9 and 1.75 BB/9 rates.

Berrios has compiled a 2.10 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 2.57 FIP and 2.96 xFIP across 34.1 June innings, together with a season-high 11.01 K/9 rate. The talented right-hander has posted a 0.93 ERA and 1.08 WHIP over his last three starts (19 1/3 IP, 25 K).

I also like the fact that Minnesota’s bullpen has shown improvement over the previous 31 days, posting a 3.77 ERA and 3.51 xFIP in 93.0 innings of work.

Twins’ relievers have also garnered a 45.5% groundball rate (11th-best) and a league-leading 1.84 BB/9 rate since May 27. Chicago southpaw Mike Montgomery’s 3.39 ERA in 24 appearances this season (six starts) is undermined by a 4.26 xFIP.

Montgomery has been the beneficiary of an unsustainable .251 BABIP so modest regression is likely.  From a technical standpoint, Minnesota is a profitable 16-6 in its last 22 interleague affairs, 12-4 in its last sixteen interleague games against teams with a winning record and 14-6 in its previous 20 interleague clashes against a left-handed starter.

Sports Betting Tips: Los Angeles Angels (-139) over Baltimore Orioles

Analysis: Baltimore is a money-burning 16-35 in its last 51 home games and 15-37 in its last 52 home affairs versus .501 or greater opposition, including 4-22 in its previous 26 against teams with a winning record.

The Orioles are 10-43 in their last 53 games versus teams with a winning record, 10-25 during game 1 of a series and 0-12 in their last twelve clashes with American League West foes.

In contrast, the Angels are 20-7 in their previous 27 games versus .399 or worse opposition and 7-1 in their last eight road tilts against teams with a .399 or worse home record.

Let’s also note that Los Angeles has won the last five meetings in this series. Baltimore right-hander David Hess toes the rubber with a 5.44 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in eight starts this season, a span covering 41.1 innings. The 24-year-old’s underlying metrics substantiate his disastrous surface numbers.

Specifically, Hess owns a 6.07 FIP and 5.85 xFIP, together with a 5.23 K/9 rate, a 3.70 BB/9 rate and a 1.96 HR/9 rate. In 18.0 June innings, Hess has posted an 8.00 ERA, 1.83 WHIP, 6.65 FIP and 6.30 xFIP, together with a woeful 5.50 BB/9 rate and a 2.00 HR/9 rate.

Finally, the Orioles are averaging just 3.7 runs per game this season (.654 OPS), including 3.3 runs per game against right-handed starters (.625). Take the Angels and invest with confidence.
