Once considered a legitimate Big-12 Conference contender, TCU’s season has imploded following back-to-back losses at home to Texas Tech (17-14) and Oklahoma (52-27). TCU head coach Gary Patterson has the unenviable task of keeping one of the youngest teams in the nation motivated to play a 2-win Kansas squad that has lost four straight games.

Let’s also note that the Horned Frogs are just 5-16 ATS in their last 21 games following a loss by 20 or more points, 2-8 ATS in their last ten October affairs and 0-6 ATS in their previous six conference games.

Compounding Patterson’s mission is off-the-field issues as TCU wide receiver KaVontae Turpin was arrested Sunday on a charge of assault of a family member with bodily injury.

“He’s suspended,” Patterson said. “My track record speaks for itself. We’re gathering information. But he probably won’t play against Kansas” The senior receiver is one of the top returners in college football and leads the country with almost 20 yards per punt return and a touchdown.

Turpin had a 99-yard kickoff return against Oklahoma on Saturday and also has three receiving touchdowns this season. The Horned Frog’s offense received further bad news as starting quarterback Shawn Robinson is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on his left shoulder.

Sophomore transfer (Penn) Michael Collins took over for Robinson in the second quarter of last week’s game against the Sooners and will be under center Saturday afternoon in Lawrence.

The one bright spot for the Jayhawks’ offense has been their ground game behind running back Pooka Williams, Jr. Williams has been named the Big-12 Conference’s newcomer of the week twice this season and became the Jayhawks’ first freshman to open his career with back-to-back 100-yard rushing games.

Williams is ranked 38th in the nation in rushing yards per game (615) and 13th in rushing yards per attempt (7.1).

Through the first five games this season, the electric freshman gained a first down on 25 percent of his carries. Technically speaking, TCU is a money-burning 10-23 ATS over the last three seasons, including 7-18 ATS as a favorite and 6-16 ATS after the first month of the season.

With Kansas standing at 5-1 ATS in the last six meetings in this series and 20-8 ATS at home versus teams with a losing road record, grab the generous points with the Jayhawks and invest with confidence.
