Game: Utah Jazz @ Brooklyn Nets
Time: 7:30 p.m. ET
Odds: Jazz -1, Nets +1
Despite playing last night, Utah heads to Brooklyn as a one-point favorite over the Nets tonight. The Jazz beat the Knicks 108-93 last night at Madison Square Garden for their third consecutive win. It was Utah’s fourth win in five games with the only defeat a six-point loss to Milwaukee. The Nets have been playing well since the return of Kevin Durant. Brooklyn, which beat Portland on Friday, is now 5-1 in its last six games. The problem tonight for the Nets is with the game at home they will not have Kyrie Irving.
Last night’s Jazz victory was led by Utah guard Donovan Mitchell who scored 36 points. Four others were in double figures. Mitchell is averaging 30.2 points over Utah’s last five games and Sunday was his second straight game of 35 or more points. The Jazz are also likely to have Mike Conley and Bojan Bogdanovic back in the lineup. Both have missed time with injuries and are listed on today’s injury report as questionable. If they are both in the lineup, that’s an added boost for the Jazz.
Without Irving in the lineup for the Nets, Durant will have to handle much of the scoring load. He had 38 points on Friday in the win over Portland at home. Brooklyn was favored by 14 but won by just five, 128-123. That gives the Nets a 1-6 ATS record in their last seven home games. With Irving out, it will likely be up to Seth Curry to provide some help on offense. Curry did just that against Portland on Friday with 27 points. Curry hit seven three-pointers.
Utah has dominated the series with Brooklyn recently winning eight of the last ten games between the two teams. In addition to winning six of the last seven games, Utah has also done well at the Barclays Center where the Jazz has covered the spread in five of the last seven games. In addition to going 1-6 ATS in their last seven home games, the Nets are 2-5 ATS in their last seven home games against the Jazz.
The Jazz have really stepped up their defensive game. Utah ranks ninth (107.4 points per game) in the NBA in scoring defense, but over their last nine games, Utah is allowing 104.4. The Jazz are 6-3 SU in those games. They have held their last two opponents to 93 and 92 points. Not surprisingly, the total went Under in both of those games. In fact, the Under has hit in eight of Utah’s last ten games. The Under has also cashed in five straight road games for the Jazz.
Brooklyn has been trending Over. The total has gone Over in 14 of the Nets’ last 19 games. In their last seven, Brooklyn has scored 120 or more points in five games. That includes 132 against Charlotte and 150 in a win over Orlando. Interestingly, the Over is 16-18 in Nets home games.
