Fighting for their playoff lives, the Dallas Mavericks head to Philadelphia where they will take on the 76ers tonight. Philly (49-26) suffered its fourth loss in the past five games on Monday at Denver after falling to the Nuggets 116-111.

Joel Embiid, a potential MVP candidate, and James Harden were both absent from the game. Tyrese Maxey’s 29 points, though, enabled the undermanned 76ers to come back from as many as 22 points down in the second half and close the gap to one possession in the waning seconds.

Due to calf pain, Embiid left Philadelphia’s most recent victory, a 116-91 drubbing of Chicago on Wednesday. He came back with a 46-point, nine-rebound, eight-assist performance on Friday at Golden State. Then on Saturday in Phoenix, Embiid recorded a double-double of 28 points and 10 rebounds, but Rivers chose to bench the center against Denver.

Meanwhile, Harden has missed four consecutive games because of an Achilles issue. He has missed five of the 76ers’ last six games overall. With Harden out, Maxey has stepped up to take Harden’s place as the top perimeter scorer. Maxey hit for at least 21 points in each of the previous six games, scoring 37 points on Saturday in Phoenix.

When Philadelphia last played Dallas, Maxey scored 29 points on March 2 in a 133-126 Mavericks victory at home. Dallas (37-39) has been losing ground ever since, going 4-8 in its last 12 games. They enter tonight’s game against Philadelphia after ending a four-game losing streak by thrashing Indiana 127-104 on Monday. Jaden Hardy came off the bench to produce 20 points on 8-of-12 shooting from the field, while Luka Doncic added 25 points. JaVale McGee contributed 10 points and two blocked shots for the Mavericks in just over 13 minutes. The seasoned center played his most minutes since February 10.

Dallas’ decline caused the Mavericks to fall outside of the top 10 in the Western Conference. In the third game of a crucial five-game road trip tonight, the Mavs will try to close the gap on Oklahoma City for the final play-in spot in the Western Conference.

Philadelphia has already clinched a spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. The 76ers are 2.5 games behind Boston for the No. 2 spot in the East. Philly is two games ahead of fourth-place Cleveland. The Cavs have won four of their last five.

Dallas is just 1-4 SU in its last five games. The Mavs are 13-7 SU in their last 20 games against the Sixers. They are also 7-3 ATS in their last 10 against Philadelphia. The Sixers are also 1-4 SU in their last five games. They have covered in six of their last nine games.

The Under is 5-1 in Dallas’ last six games and 7-1 in its last eight on the road. The Under is also 6-1 in the last seven games against Philadelphia on the road. The Under is 4-1 in the Sixers’ last five games, 5-1 in its last six home games, and 5-1 in the team’s last six against the Mavericks.
