When they play the struggling Atlanta Hawks tonight, the Golden State Warriors are hoping to build on their recent success at home and get some of their stars back in the lineup. The Warriors have started an eight-game home stand with four straight victories after returning from a 1-5 road trip. The road trip left Golden State three games under.500 and it left the Warriors longing for the return of Stephen Curry and Andrew Wiggins. Both are expected back in the lineup tonight.

The defending NBA champions, who are currently a league-best 16-2 at home, anticipate Wiggins’ return on Monday following a 13-game layoff. Wiggins suffered a strained adductor and a sickness prolonged his absence. Over that time, Golden State has a 6-7 record, going 5-1 at home and 1-6 away from home.

The Warriors’ most recent victory came against the Portland Trail Blazers on Friday. With 6:59 remaining in the game, they trailed 105-98 before closing it out with a 20-7 run. With 24 seconds left in the game, Donte DiVincenzo made a crucial three-pointer to seal the win. The basket capped off what has come to be known as his signature all-around performance: nine points, nine rebounds, four assists, and four steals.

The Hawks will play the Warriors for the first time this season as Atlanta departs on a week-long trip to California. The team had a three-game skid, which included a 130-121 home loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday. The Hawks will play the Lakers again later this week.

The Hawks’ two-game home stand was marred by speculations that coach Nate McMillan might be considering resigning, so perhaps going on the road will help. McMillan has denied the rumors.

Two guards who have troubled Golden State are now playing for the Hawks. When the Hawks and Warriors split their two-game series last season, Trae Young had outings with 28 and 33 points. In March of last season, Atlanta triumphed 121-110 at home after falling short 127-113 in San Francisco.

Dejounte Murray, a former San Antonio Spurs player who played 10 times against the Warriors and averaged 19 or more points in half of those games, is now a member of the Hawks. Murray scored 23 and 19 points respectively as the Spurs defeated Golden State twice last year. Murray scored 20 points and Young scored 29 in Friday’s loss to the Lakers.

Atlanta has struggled recently going 1-4 SU in its last five games. The Hawks are 1-5 SU in their last six on the road and 1-8 SU in their last nine on the road against Golden State. Atlanta is 3-7 ATS in its last 10 games, but what is interesting is the Hawks are 4-1 SU and ATS in their last five games against the Warriors.

Golden State is 4-1 SU in its last five games. The Under is 4-1 in the Warriors’ last five games and 8-0 in the team’s last eight home games. Four of the last six Hawks-Warriors games have seen the total go Over.
