The Toronto Blue Jays will attempt to win their second straight series as they battle Toronto in tonight’s middle game of their current series. Toronto beat Milwaukee last night 7-2 to win the first game of the series. The Blue Jays defeated the host Minnesota Twins this past weekend, winning two of three games after dropping three straight series during a 2-9 stretch.

The Blue Jays had 14 hits last night. The game’s lone extra-base hit came from Whit Merrifield, who doubled home two runs in the first inning as Toronto scored four times in the opening frame. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Alejandro Kirk both had three hits. Bo Bichette, the only Blue Jays starter without a hit last night, snapped an eight-game hitting streak by going 0-for-5.

Brandon Belt went 1-for-2 with an RBI and two walks. He has drawn 16 walks (.470 on-base percentage) while hitting.333 (22-for-66) with six doubles, one home run, seven RBIs, and seven runs scored. Pitcher Yusei Kikuchi (6-2) of Toronto surrendered two runs, three hits, and a season-high five walks over the course of five innings. Kikuchi struck out four, the second of which was his career 500th strikeout in the major leagues.

Alek Manoah, a right-hander, will start for Toronto tonight. He is just 1-6 with a 5.53 ERA this season after going 16-7 with a 2.24 ERA last season. He made just one career start against the Brewers, winning last June 24 in Milwaukee after giving up two runs, five hits, three walks, and six strikeouts in 6.2innings.

Milwaukee will start right-hander Julio Teheran (0-1, 1.80) on Wednesday. In five starts against Toronto in his career, he is 0-1 with a 7.66 ERA. Teheran has made one start this season. It came last week against San Francisco. He pitched five innings and allowed one earned run.

The Brewers’ injury problems are still present. Jesse Winker, the designated hitter, was Tuesday placed on the 10-day injured list. In the off-season, Winker had a neck disc replaced. He’s batting .204 this season with 13 RBIs and he has yet to hit a home run. Abraham Toro was called up from Triple-A Nashville to take Winker’s spot. Toro appeared once in last night’s game, getting hit by a pitch in the ninth inning in his only at-bat. Toro played in 43 games in Nashville and had one home run and 18 RBIs.

Milwaukee is just 1-4 SU in its last five games. The Brewers are 2-4 SU in their last six games against Toronto. Milwaukee has struggled on the road too, going 3-10 SU in the team’s last 13 games away from home.

The Blue Jays are only 5-10 SU in their last 15 games. Toronto is fourth in the AL East where all five teams are above .500. Toronto is 1-4 SU in its last five home games, with the only win coming last night.
