Game: Los Angeles Dodgers @ San Francisco Giants
Time: 9:45 p.m.
Odds: Dodgers -147, Giants +136
Total: 7.5
One of MLB’s best rivalries rekindles tonight as the Dodgers and Giants begin an early-week three-game series. Neither team is off to that great of a start in 2023. The Dodgers are just 5-5 and the Giants are currently 4-5. The Giants took one of three games from the Royals over the weekend while LA won just one of four games against Arizona. The Dodgers have lost three straight and they gave up 29 runs in those three losses.
Interestingly, the Dodgers have played Arizona eight times already. They opened the season by splitting four games with the D-Backs before the 1-3 showing over the weekend. Both teams will send strong pitchers to the mound. Julio Urias starts for Los Angeles and Logan Webb will go for San Francisco. Pitching has been the major issue for the Dodgers so far. Urias was outstanding last season and has picked up right where he left off. Urias is 2-0 with a 1.50 ERA so far in 2023. He gave up two runs to Colorado and none to Arizona. Urias went six innings in each start.
What’s impressive about Urias is that he usually produces weak contact, if hitters are able to hit him at all. He struck out six batters in each of his first two starts this season. Urias should do well against a Giants offense that has struggled in the majority of its games so far this season.
The Dodgers, on the other hand, have a tendency to score runs. LA is averaging six runs per game and in the final two games of the series with Arizona, the Dodgers put up six and eight runs. They still found a way to lose though.
Webb has started two games so far this season and lost them both. In the season opener against the Yankees, Webb allowed four earned runs in six innings. The Giants lost 5-0. The lone bright spot was that Webb struck out 12 batters. Then, he went five innings against the White Sox last week and gave up another four earned runs. He’s now 0-2 with a 6.55 ERA.
Just last year, there was talk about how Webb pitched well against the Dodgers. That changed when he faced the Boys in Blue four times in the second half of the season. In four appearances, he pitched 21 innings and gave up 13 earned runs for an ERA of 5.57. Webb had one great performance where he went six innings and allowed just a single run. But, he also had a five-inning outing where he gave up six earned runs.
The Dodgers are 5-0 SU in their last five games against the Giants. In games played in San Francisco, the Dodgers have won seven in a row. Los Angeles is just 1-5 SU in its last six road games. The Giants are 6-3 SU in their last nine home games. Going back to last season, the Over has cashed in 12 of San Francisco’s last 17 games.
