Last night’s opening game of this Dodgers-Mets series felt much like a playoff game. The two teams battled in a low-scoring game with Los Angeles eventually getting the win on Gavin Lux’s RBI single in the seventh inning. The Dodgers won 4-3 and tonight’s matchup will continue that postseason atmosphere with one of the best pitching matchups of the season. The Dodgers will send Tyler Anderson to the mound to face two-time Cy Young Award winner Jacob deGrom of the Mets.

With the win last night, the Dodgers now lead the NL West by 19.5 games. LA has won nine of its last eleven games and doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. The Mets lead the NL East but only by three games over Atlanta. The Braves have been playing well since the All-Star break and the Mets can’t afford to lose ground against them. Both Los Angeles and New York are favored to win their divisions as well as the NL pennant and the World Series.

One of the big reasons why both teams are favorites for this year’s World Series is pitching. Both rotations are deep and the Dodgers’ Anderson is among the MLB leaders in wins with 13. He is 13-2 this season with a 2.69 ERA. The Dodgers have won nine of his last ten starts and they have only lost four of his 22 starts this season.

Anderson didn’t earn a decision in his last two starts, but he allowed one earned run in each game as the Dodgers beat the Marlins twice. Anderson has started four career games against the Mets. One of those was back on June 3. He pitched six innings of scoreless baseball and the Dodgers won 6-1. In those four career starts, Anderson is 2-1 with a 2.42 ERA against the Mets.

New York always has a chance to win with deGrom on the mound. He returned from an injury to start his first game of the season earlier this month. So far, deGrom has pitched 29.1 innings and allowed seven earned runs. He is 3-1 with a 2.15 ERA. The interesting thing is that deGrom has never beaten the Dodgers in a regular season start.

The Mets ace has started 10 regular season games against the Dodgers and is 0-4 with a 2.87 ERA. In the postseason, it’s a different story. deGrom is 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA against Los Angeles in two playoff starts. Both of those came in 2015 when the Mets beat the Dodgers in five games.

The Dodgers are 6-1 SU in their last seven games and have beaten the Mets in 10 of the last 13 meetings. The Mets are 0-5 SU in the last five games against the Dodgers at home.

The total has gone Under in six of the Mets’ last seven games and seven of the last eight home games. The Under is 6-3 in the last nine Dodgers-Mets games. The Under is 4-0-1 in deGrom’s five starts this season.
