Game: Los Angeles Dodgers @ Cincinnati Reds

Time: 8:10 p.m. ET

Odds:  Dodgers -185, Reds +155

Total: 9.5

The Los Angeles Dodgers look to regroup after a home series loss to Cleveland. They head to Cincinnati where the Reds are still reeling after they were swept over the weekend by Milwaukee. The difference between the two teams is huge. The Dodgers can shake off the losses to Cleveland as they are still among the favorites to win this year’s World Series. The Reds are still one of the worst teams in the majors.

The big difference today will be the pitching matchup, which is why the Dodgers are a huge favorite. Tyler Mahle (2-5, 4.10) gets the call for Cincy. He is coming off his best start of the season. Mahle pitched a complete game against Arizona allowing zero earned runs in picking up the victory. In his last two starts, Mahle has allowed just one earned run and he has recorded 22 strikeouts. He has pitched once against the Dodgers this season. That didn’t go so well. In 3.2 innings, Mahle gave up seven hits and seven earned runs.

Opposite Mahle will be Dodgers pitcher Tony Gonsolin. With Clayton Kershaw aging and Trevor Bauer out of the lineup, Gonsolin has become the Dodgers ace. He is 8-0 with an ERA of 1.42. Gonsolin has not allowed more than two earned runs in any of his 12 starts this season. The Dodgers have won seven of Gonsolin’s last eight starts. He has pitched at least six innings in his last six starts and across those six games, he’s allowed a total of six earned runs.

Gonsolin also has a win over Cincinnati already this season. It was his second start of the year back in mid-April. Gonsolin gave up three hits, didn’t allow an earned run and the Dodgers went on to win the game 3-1. What’s interesting is that nine of Gonsolin’s 12 starts this season have resulted in the Under.

Los Angeles has had plenty of success against Cincinnati too. The Dodgers are 6-0 SU in their last six games against the Reds. Playing in Cincinnati, the Dodgers are 10-4 SU in the last 14 games.

The Reds are just 1-4 SU in their last five games. They have also lost their last five straight home games. There isn’t much that points to the Reds having a chance against L.A. Cincy has improved since it started the 2022 MLB season 3-22.

Today’s total is 9.5 despite Gonsolin on the mound. Remember, just three of his 12 starts have gone Over the total. The Dodgers also have a top-10 bullpen and the last time Gonsolin pitched against Cincy the game ended with four total runs. Plus, the Dodgers haven’t exactly been tearing it up at the plate lately. L.A. scored just three runs on Sunday and managed a single run in their opener with Cleveland last week. The Dodgers haven’t scored more than four runs in six of their last seven games.
