The Cincinnati Reds will host the Los Angeles Dodgers for Game 2 of a three-game series tonight, one day after one of the most anticipated major league debuts of the season. Elly De La Cruz, the top prospect for the Reds, received a standing ovation during batting practice and when he took the field for his first at-bat. The 21-year-old infielder helped Cincinnati defeat Los Angeles 9-8 last night by going 1-for-3 with two walks.

De La Cruz was called up from Triple-A Louisville where he batted.298 with 12 home runs, 36 RBIs, and 11 steals to earn his promotion to the majors. De La Cruz started at third base in place of an injured Nick Senzel. Despite not having played in the majors until last night, De La Cruz is among the contenders for the NL Rookie of the Year award. He is currently listed around +1000 to win the award.

Tonight, the Reds will start left-hander Brandon Williamson (0-0, 4.29 ERA). In his fourth major league start, Williamson limited the Milwaukee Brewers to three runs, two of which were earned, on five hits over 6.2  innings. Williamson doesn’t have a decision yet, but the Brewers game was the first loss for the Reds in the four games Williamson has started.

Right-hander Noah Syndergaard (1-4, 6.54 ERA) will start for the Dodgers. His first season with Los Angeles has been difficult thus far. In 11 starts, he has only managed one win. While he hasn’t had much success this season, Syndergaard has had plenty of success pitching against the Reds in his career.

In 56.2 innings over eight starts, Syndergaard has a 7-0 record against Cincinnati. He sports a 2.22 ERA, has 55 strikeouts, and has allowed only eight walks against the Reds. In two starts against Cincinnati last season, he went 2-0 with a 2.57 ERA while pitching for the Philadelphia Phillies.

On Wednesday, Jonny DeLuca is scheduled to make his outfield debut for the Dodgers, who have now dropped three straight games. He will take the place of Trayce Thompson, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique strain. DeLuca was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday. He hit 14 home runs in 49 games between Oklahoma City and Double-A Tulsa.

While the Dodgers have lost three straight, they have enjoyed success against the Reds. LA is 9-1 SU in the last ten against Cincy. The Reds are just 2-4 SU in their last six games. In their last 12 games at home, Cincinnati is 4-8 SU.

The Over trends for both teams. The Over is 11-4 in the Dodgers’ last 15 games and 10-5 in the Reds’ last 15. LA ranks third in the majors in scoring (5.52) while the Reds rank 13th (4.55). The total for tonight’s game is 11. Over the last three meetings, the two teams have combined to average over 14 runs per game.
