The Braves and Mets begin a crucial five-game weekend series tonight. The top two teams in the NL East are separated by just 2.5 games. By the end of the series, the Mets hold on the division could be lost or New York could give itself some cushion. To start the series, the Mets will go with right-hander Carlos Carrasco who has had a solid 2022 season thus far.

Carrasco is 11-4 with a 3.79 ERA this season. He just earned his 100th MLB win last Saturday when he pitched 7.2 scoreless innings against Miami. Carrasco gave up just four hits and the Mets won 4-0. In his career, Carrasco has just three appearances – two starts – against the Braves. One of those came on May 3 of this season. Carrasco pitched a beauty going eight innings without allowing a single run.

The Mets have won each of Carrasco’s last five starts. In his last three trips to the mound, Carrasco has not allowed a run. That’s a span of 18.2 scoreless innings for the Mets right-hander. In those last five starts, Carrasco has allowed just three earned runs in 30 total innings.

The Braves will counter with a right-hander of their own – Kyle Wright. Wright has been just as impressive this season for Atlanta. He is 13-4 with a 2.93 ERA. He won his sixth straight decision last Friday when he allowed two runs in 6.2 innings in a 5-2 win over Arizona. Atlanta has now won 10 of Wright’s last 11 starts. In winning six straight decisions, Wright has allowed a total of just 10 earned runs in 37.2 innings for an ERA of 2.42.

Wright has started five games against the Mets in his career. He is 1-3 with a 6.17 ERA. Wright just happened to be the losing pitcher in that May 3 game that was won by Carrasco. Tonight’s rematch should be a good one.

The Mets have won eight of their last nine games. They had won seven straight before a hiccup against the Nationals on Tuesday. Over the course of those last nine games, the Mets offense has been pouring it on. New York is averaging 5.89 runs per game in its last nine overall. The Mets are fifth in MLB in runs per game averaging 4.73. The Braves are actually one spot ahead of the Mets in fourth. The Braves average 4.76 runs per game.

Atlanta won four straight before losing last night to Philadelphia. The Braves have beaten the Mets just twice in their last six head-to-head meetings. Despite Atlanta’s scoring average, the Under has hit in four of the team’s last five games. In their last six road games, the total has gone Over five times.

For the Mets, the Over is 6-3 in the team’s last nine games. In New York’s last six home games, the Under is 4-2. Playing at home against Atlanta, four of the last five games have gone Over.
