On Tuesday, June 19, Oskeim previews the baseball game between the Boston Red Sox and Minnesota Twins.  Oskeim recommends taking the UNDER 7.5 runs as one of his free picks for tonight.  Visit Oskeim’s online store for award-winning sports picks!

Boston ace Chris Sale toes the rubber with a 2.75 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, 2.79 FIP and 2.81 xFIP in fifteen starts this season.  The talented southpaw boasts a 12.22 K/9 rate and an elite 24.9% hard contact rate.

Sale has actually pitched better away from Fenway Park, posting a 2.56 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, 2.89 FIP and 2.84 xFIP across 59.2 innings of work on the road.  Those results are further enhanced by a 34.3% K%, a 6.0% BB% and a 5.71 K/BB ratio.

“I have a good rhythm and tempo going for me right now,” said Sale, who has held opponents to no more than a run in nine starts this season.  “I’m feeling good.  That’s the way I like it.”  The Red Sox are 10-1 in Sale’s last eleven road starts against teams with a losing record and Boston has won five of the previous 6 meetings in this series.

Sale is backed by an elite Boston bullpen that enters tonight’s game with a 2.99 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 2018.  Boston relievers have posted a 2.62 ERA and 1.21 WHIP on the road, a 2.84 ERA and 1.16 WHIP at night and a 2.75 ERA and 1.42 WHIP over their last seven games.

Boston’s pitching staff, beginning with Sale, should have little trouble limiting an anemic Minnesota lineup that is averaging just 4.3 runs per game at home and 3.2 runs per game against left-handed starters (.287 OBP, .610 OPS).

Red Sox Trends Supporting UNDER 7.5 Runs

  • UNDER is 7-0 in L/7 vs. American League Central foes
  • UNDER is 8-1 in L/9 vs. teams with a losing record
  • UNDER is 13-5 in L/18 road games vs. teams with a losing record
  • UNDER is 10-3 in L/13 games overall
  • UNDER is 5-0 in Sale’s L/5 starts vs. teams with a losing record

Minnesota right-hander Jose Berrios is having a fantastic 2018 campaign, posting a 3.51 ERA, 3.33 FIP and 3.38 xFIP in fourteen starts.  Berrios owns a 21.5% K-BB% and has excelled at home where he boasts a 3.12 ERA, 0.77 WHIP, 2.09 FIP and 2.72 xFIP.  The 24-year-old also owns a 10.21 K/9 rate, a 1.21 BB/9 rate and a 0.52 HR/9 rate inside Target Field.

Berrios should shut down a Boston lineup that is averaging 4.5 runs per game on the road and 4.3 runs over its last seven games.  The UNDER is 6-1-1 in Berrios’ last eight home outings against .501 or greater opposition, 4-1 in his last five starts during game 1 of a series and 13-4-1 in his previous 19 starts versus teams with a winning record.

Twins Trends Supporting UNDER 7.5 Runs

  • UNDER is 8-1 in L/9 games vs. left-handed starters
  • UNDER is 5-1-01 in L/7 home games
  • UNDER is 4-0 in L/4 home games vs. left-handed starters

This game should be an extremely low-scoring affair between two of the best starting pitchers in the Majors.  Take the UNDER 7.5 runs as one of Oskeim Sports’ free picks for Tuesday, June 19.
