Colorado starter Tyler Anderson takes the mound with a 4.81 ERA, 4.71 FIP and 4.50 xFIP in thirteen starts. The southpaw’s strikeout numbers are down (7.75 K/9) and his walks are up (3.48 BB/9) this season and he continues to give up too many home runs (1.47 HR/9).
The long ball has been an issue for Anderson throughout his professional career (1.31 HR/9 ) and he finished 2017 with a 1.67 HR/9 rate. Anderson’s hard contact rate has also increased this season (33.3%) compared to previous seasons.
Anderson posted a 5.28 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 5.62 FIP in May, a span covering 29.0 innings. His strikeout rate plummeted last month (6.52 K/9) and his home run rate spiked (2.17 HR/9).
Anderson finds little help in a woefully underperforming Colorado bullpen that owns a 5.22 ERA and 1.42 WHIP in 2018, including posting a 6.75 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in its last seven games.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia right-hander Nick Pivetta has posted a 5.79 ERA in his last three starts over which time opponents are hitting .294 against him. Pivetta was tagged with a loss in all three of those starts, including last Thursday where he yielded four earned runs on six hits in five innings against the Cubs.
In his lone starts against the Rockies at Coors Field on August 5, 2017, Pivetta gave up eight runs in 2 2/3 innings of work. Philadelphia’s bullpen has also struggled recently, posting a 6.75 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in its last seven games (21.3 IP, 16 ER, 27 H, 5 HR).
Technically speaking, the OVER is 8-3-1 in the last twelve meetings in this series, including going 6-1-1 in the last seven clashes inside Citizens Bank Park.
The OVER is 10-1 in Philadelphia’s last eleven games with umpire Jeff Kellogg behind home plate and 5-0 in the Rockies’ previous five games with Kellogg calling balls and strikes.
The OVER is 7-1-1 in Colorado’s last nine games versus a right-handed starter, 7-1 in its previous eight games following a loss and 10-1-2 in its last thirteen games overall. Similarly, the OVER is 4-1 in Anderson’s previous five starts and 4-0 in Anderson’s last four road outings.
Take the OVER 8.5 runs in tonight’s game between the Colorado Rockies and Philadelphia Phillies as one of Oskeim Sports’ daily sports picks for Wednesday, June 13.
Oskeim Sports’ Daily Sports Picks for June 13:
